School for CEOs conclude seventh Vital Few
8 October 2015
The School for CEOs are now on the second and final day of their seventh Vital Few programme. With support from their Faculty of senior business leaders and leading sector professionals, the School has shared key lessons for successful leadership to a dynamic delegate group.
Leaders from a mixture of financial services, media, construction, education, sport and leisure, and not for profit organisations gathered to form an engaged delegate group, sharing their experiences and challenges in their current roles as senior executives and CEOs.
Once again, the programme benefited from the experience and expertise of high quality speakers from the School’s Faculty, including:
• Paul Forman, CEO at Coats plc
• Danuta Gray, Non-Executive Director of Aldermore Bank plc, Old Mutual plc, Page Group plc and Paddy Power
• Ewan Pearson, Managing Director of Grant Pearson Brown Consulting ltd
• Dr Brian Marien, Co-Founder of Positive Group
• Mike Anderson, Founder and CEO of Chelsea Apps Factory
• Simon Hamer, BBC
• Anita Scott, Partner at Brunswick Group
• Paul Lee, Head of Corporate Governance at Aberdeen Asset Management
• Professor Damian Hughes, Founder of Liquid Thinker
• Alistair Cox, CEO at Hays Specialist Recruitment
• Mary Spillane, Personal Branding Expert and Leadership Coach
The School introduced a new session designed to explore the theme of Resilience which was led by Dr Brian Marien. Brian co-founded Positive Group, who translate the academic and scientific topic of resilience into a tool to help organisations to change the way they think, feel and behave.
For June Boyle, Programme Director, "Delegates found the new session on Resilience particularly relevant – it is a theme that is becoming ever more widespread for leaders in all sectors.”
Professor Damian Hughes also joined the Faculty to speak about Developing Culture. He used real life examples to demonstrate the tools for cultural change in business.
On the close of the session, David Sole, Co-Founder of the School for CEOs, said "The diversity of the delegate group, including delegates from the Channel Islands and Australia, enabled rich discussion and shared learning. The value of having experienced practitioners from a variety of different industries teaching once again brought real value to the programme."

The next School for CEOs programme is the 1-day non-residential Runway programme on 19th November. The next Vital Few programme will take place in London on 16/17 March 2016. The 2-day residential programme will be taught by practitioners: current and former business leaders. It aims to provide senior businessmen and women with the tools they need to be successful in CEO and other senior leadership positions.
