Leaders must live by their values and look after themselves
30 November 2017
Delegates from a wide variety of sectors, including Engineering, Medical Research, Financial Services and Sport joined School for CEOs for the delivery of its eleventh Runway programme. This programme supports leaders who aspire to Executive-level roles, with delegates in preparation for the programme self-assessing against School's Dimensions framework.
An evening session led by David Sole OBE, Managing Partner and co-author of 21st-Century Networking, launched the programme. This was complemented by a dinner where delegates heard from Peter Norris, Chairman of Virgin Group, who shared his experiences of navigating a career to the top. He spoke of the importance of seeking feedback and advice, taking responsibility for failures as well as successes, communicating your values and ultimately, looking after yourself.
The following day, delegates gathered for a full day workshop where they worked through the results of a self-assessment, and shaped their development plans for the next 3-5 years. In between these sessions, guest speakers Rosemary McGinness, Chief People Officer of Weir Group and Toby Lapage-Norris, Managing Partner of Stonehaven International joined the programme. They spoke about their personal experiences of how to prepare for an Executive-level role, highlighting themes such as authenticity, diversity and the rise of millennials in the workplace. Being transparent in response to these factors would ensure a delegate is ready to step up.
At the completion of the programme David Sole said: “we could not have asked for a better group of delegates for our final Runway of the year. They had an infectious energy from start to finish, which enabled them to challenge and support each other throughout the day.”
