More on mowernomics
In his earlier blog School for CEOs Founder Patrick Macdonald mused on Mowernomics, referring to Qualcast mowers.
Qualcast is an English brand that started making lawn mowers in 1920, it is now owned by Bosch. Steffen Hoffmann was appointed as the President of Robert Bosch Ltd in the UK on 1 April 2015.
Hoffmann began his career in 1992 in Germany at Robert Bosch GmbH as a management trainee and went on to hold several executive commercial roles in different countries, including Germany, Japan and South Africa; and functions such as Accounting, Finance and Administration.
His progression to the C-suite is not unusual. Research by School for CEOs shows CEOs reflect a variety of functional backgrounds. The majority come from finance and general management and several will have performed roles in more than one function.
Career management – and the associated breadth and variety of the experience gained, as seen in Hoffmann’s career - was cited as the most important aspect in many of the contributors’ professional development. Some CEOs actively seek this breadth and diversity themselves; to a lesser extent others found assistance from the companies they worked for.
The path to the top is varied and diverse – there is no ‘silver bullet’ for CEOs developmental needs meaning that leaders need to tailor their development according to the gaps that may exist in their own knowledge and experience. We hope School for CEOs, with our unique practitioner-led programmes, can help.
