Patrick Macdonald has gained extensive international experience and expertise during his 30 years in business. He started his professional career at the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors and then Unilever, based in the UK and Germany. Following his MBA, Patrick worked for The Boston Consulting Group in Germany and the UK. He then moved to General Electric (GE) where he was based in Connecticut, USA and eventually held responsibility for Sourcing at GE Capital. In 2003 Patrick became CEO of John Menzies plc, a quoted, family-backed logistics company where he doubled profitability. He has subsequently worked in private equity. He has led waste management firm Reconomy (sponsored by Bregal Capital); wind developer Dalestone Energy (Bregal Capital); and energy consultants Inenco (Vitruvian Partners). He is currently Chairman of print solutions business Corona Corporate Solutions (HIG Capital).
Patrick holds a first class honours degree in Engineering Science from Oxford University and gained an MBA with Distinction at INSEAD in France in 1992. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute. He is also a Sainsbury Management Fellow.
Patrick is a Trustee of the Woodland Trust and a member of the Scottish Advisory Committee of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE). He enjoys a number of pastimes, often with his wife and three children, ranging from watersports (such as rowing, sailing and canoeing) through hillwalking to ‘extreme’ gardening – his description of horticulture in Edinburgh!
