Patrick Macdonald has gained extensive international experience and expertise during his 30 years in business. He started his professional career at the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors and then Unilever, based in the UK and Germany. Following his MBA, Patrick worked for The Boston Consulting Group in Germany and the UK. He then moved to General Electric (GE) where he was based in Connecticut, USA and eventually held responsibility for Sourcing at GE Capital. In 2003 Patrick became CEO of John Menzies plc, a quoted, family-backed logistics company where he doubled profitability. He has subsequently worked in private equity. In 2009 he joined Reconomy, a fast-growing waste recycling and construction services business, as CEO (he is now Chairman). Between 2012-2014 he was also CEO of Dalestone Energy, an energy development firm backed by the same private equity house. At the beginning of 2016, he also became Chairman of UK energy consultants Inenco, where he was also interim CEO until November 2016.
Patrick holds a first class honours degree in Engineering Science from Oxford University and gained an MBA with Distinction at INSEAD in France in 1992. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute. He is also a Sainsbury Management Fellow.
Patrick is a Trustee of the Woodland Trust and a member of the Scottish Advisory Committee of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE). He enjoys a number of pastimes, often with his wife and three children, ranging from watersports (such as rowing, sailing and canoeing) through hillwalking to ‘extreme’ gardening – his description of horticulture in Edinburgh!
